Westmeath County Council
National Roads Design Office
About the Office:
The office, based in Mullingar, is responsible for national road scheme project management on behalf of Westmeath County Council (and some neighbouring counties, under specific arrangements) in accordance with a work programme approved by the National Roads Authority. Information about the projects in which the office currently has an involvement can be viewed via the schemes link to the left.
The office functions primarily as a design office for the implementation of major new road projects, from conception to compulsory purchase order stage, and the co-ordination of consultant bodies involved in these schemes. It has strong links with the other National Roads Design Offices, including those in Naas, Navan, Tramore and Roscommon.
The office was founded in 1995 as the site office for the construction and maintenance of the Mullingar Bypass, and became a National Roads Office in 1998. Having occupied temporary accomodation up to that date, the office relocated to the current landmark building in 2003.
